Dysfunction of Northern Ireland’s political administration is evident in Covid breaches

We now have four of the Northern Ireland executive’s five political parties sharing the dubious distinction of having breached at least the spirit of the Covid-19 regulations.

The MLAs in question either didn’t understand the seriousness of the pandemic or they decided that their personal interests trumped the wellbeing of the entire population. It is difficult to say which is worse.

Either way, their actions demonstrate the dysfunctional nature of the province’s administration.

The first minister did nothing to help its flagging reputation by stating on air on Monday that it is not up to her to tell people whether they should travel abroad.
