The Free Presbyterian Church gives thanks to God for return of worship in churches

The Officers of Presbytery and the Presbytery’s Executive Committee of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster, welcome heartily the indicative announcement from the Stormont Executive that from the 29th June churches will be able to commence a return to public worship.

This is an answer to much prayer raised up by the members of our congregations as well as Christians from other denominations. We are thankful to Almighty God that in His goodness the coronavirus has receded to the level where churches may assemble publicly.

Believing as we do in the Scriptural ordinance of the public worship of God, we are very thankful that He has opened up the way for our members to return to His house.

We appreciate the fact that the Stormont executive set up a Taskforce, in which we participated, to give representatives of churches the opportunity to present their case for a return to public worship.

Along with other denominations, the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster took very seriously the situation that arose because of the coronavirus pandemic.

At a meeting on the 19th of March 2020, our Presbytery’s Executive Committee decided that all worship services in all Free Presbyterian churches were to be postponed with immediate effect.

In the light of the Stormont executive’s announcement, the Officers of Presbytery have already notified ministers and Kirk Sessions that they should begin to make preparation for return to worship.

In our church services, it will be our objective to implement all necessary regulations so as to continue to protect against the spread of the virus.

We have both the spiritual and physical health of our friends and members at heart and have developed plans to provide a safe environment to open again for worship and the preaching of the Gospel.

Rev Gordon Dane, Moderator of Presbytery; Rev John Armstrong, Deputy Moderator of Presbytery; Rev John Greer, Clerk of Presbytery
