I was overjoyed that Donald Trump was cleared of wrongdoing in his impeachment trial.

Now I have had an interest in politics for the last 70 years of my life, where I have now reached the stage to be wary of all questionable political behaviour.

The recent US presidential and congressional elections between the members of the US Democratic Party and the US Republican Party led to a furore over claims of illegal practices, eg dead people casting votes, false names of people who cast a vote, and more.

Letter to the editor

Let me say, the global political system is rotten to the core.

The closest approach to a true democracy will only come when a ‘fingerprint’ system is introduced for those who wish to cast their vote.

Until that happens the next 50 years will end up like the last 50 years.

Harry Stephenson, Kircubbin
