Let councils decide on cemeteries so those that are not dominated by Sinn Fein can open

When it comes to the re-opening of the cemeteries, the ‘fly in the ointment’ up at Stormont is yet again, Sinn Fein.

This party is the biggest one objecting to the opening of cemeteries so that relatives can have a quiet moment with their deceased loved-ones.

My understanding is that the district councils in Northern Ireland are responsible for managing the cemeteries.

It therefore seems logical that it is the councils who should have the authority, not Stormont, in deciding to open up the cemeteries for visitation.

Sinn Fein has no MLAs elected for the North Down constituency, nor any councillors on the Ards & North Down Council.

If those Sinn Fein-dominated councils, such as the Belfast City Council, do not want to reopen the cemeteries, then that is a matter for them.
