I am ashamed that the British government have not facilitated emergency food, drink and toilet facilities to the thousands of lorry drivers marooned in Kent.

It is a cruel shambles and even more poignant bearing in mind it is Christmas time.

There should be particular and immediate relief for the families and children who are stranded.

Where is the Children’s Commissioner? Will nobody stand up for these people?

I also think of the highways agency workers who will have to clear up the hazardous mess!

The government has obligations to them as well, but is ignoring them.
