Time for a State of the Union message from the DUP

The intimidating prospect of a Sinn Fein controlling influence in Stormont and Dail Eireann pitches unionism into a political dog fight.

Is Northern Ireland's link to Great Britain in peril?

This is game on time for unionists to take a stand in a unity of purpose to face down rampant republicanism.

By tooling up for a destabilising border poll, Sinn Fein have drawn the battle lines inviting unionists to engage – so be it! – making it essential that the DUP and Ulster Unionists set out unionist terms for the future processing of devolution, lines in the sand which uphold the integrity of the Belfast Agreement.

Arlene Foster needs to connect with the unionist family by presenting a concise ‘State of the Union’ prospectus – an unambiguous message asserting the safeguarding of the Union.

Without equivocation Mrs Foster must summarily underscore a unionist rejection of a border poll and put a question marker over Sinn Fein’s suitability to remain in a power-sharing government.

It is time overdue that unionist leaders stopped pussy-footing around Sinn Fein’s aggression and called them out for what they are –no good for the people of Northern Ireland.
