Unlike at the Fermanagh polling station, there was no need for a republican mob to help the Bobby Storey funeral

The French have a word for it.

Several in fact. Plus ça change plus c’est la même chose.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

2001. Garrison, Fermanagh. Election time. ‘Activists’ intimidate polling station staff to re open after 10pm closing, in an incident which the then lord chief justice described as follows: “The disturbance at St Martin’s School, Garrison was serious and intolerable.”

Michelle Gildernew was elected to Westminster by 53 votes that day. Despite the legal challenge her election stands.

2020. Roselawn, south east Belfast. Storey’s cremation. Same thing.

Only this time there was no need for a mob delaying closure the council (where Sinn Fein is the biggest party) helped out, and staff were sent home early, a crowd was allowed special treatment to get into the crematorium grounds and the council prevented the booked cremations of several ordinary decent folk.

A wee bit more French. Déjà vu.

They appear to have got away with it. Again.
