No compromise by British sovereignty

Sam McBride ('˜Once fringe idea now moving mainstream,' September 23) stated:

“The 1998 Belfast Agreement was a complex compromise, entailing everything from prisoner releases to the removal of the Republic’s claim to Northern Ireland.”

Given the removal of the so-called claim to Northern Ireland, what compromise was made by British sovereignty?
