Orange hall attack treated as hate crime

Police are treating a paint attack on a historic Orange hall in north Belfast as a hate crime.

Paint was thrown over the front of the building on Clifton Street – a repeated target for attacks – sometime overnight on Saturday. PSNI Insp David McBride has appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact police.

North Belfast DUP candidate William Humphrey: “Once again Clifton Street Orange Hall has been attacked by republican vandals. There can be no doubt that the hall was deliberately targeted and paint bombed to coincide with Sunday’s Belfast Orange Widows parade and service, in a clear attempt to raise tensions.”

TUV North Belfast Assembly candidate John Miller said the latest attack on the hall “cannot be divorced from the Easter Rising commemorations in the city”.
