Appeal to establish circumstances around death of man in NI car park - Loughlin Maginn was pronounced dead at the scene

Police have issued an appeal for information into the death of 39-year-old Loughlin Maginn.

The father-of-one died two weeks ago in Rathfriland.

In a Facebook post police say: “Loughlin parked his car, a black coloured Volkswagen Golf, in the car park on Downpatrick Street shortly after 12.30pm on the afternoon of Wednesday 1st July.

“He exited the car after parking it and moments later became trapped beneath the car when it rolled a short distance”.

The post adds: “Sadly, Loughlin was pronounced dead at the scene and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

“We are working hard to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident and are appealing to anyone who was in the Downpatrick Street car park Wednesday 1st July at the time of this incident to contact us.

“Any information you may have could help.

“Please call 101 and ask for the Collision Investigation Unit in Sprucefield. The reference number is 763 01/07/20”.

This was the second tragedy for the Maginn family.

Loughlin’s father and namesake was murdered aged 28-years in a notorious loyalist shooting in Rathfriland in 1989.
