Condolences paid after teenager killed and six other young people injured in overnight collision - PSNI appealing for witnesses to two car collision

An 18-year-old has died after a two car collision in the early hours of this morning.

The collision happened in the Coily Hill Road area of Killyleagh.

He was a passenger in a Peugeot 207 which collided with a Volkswagen Polo on the Coily Hill Road shortly after midnight.

Six other young people, four males and two females, were injured and taken to hospital.

Inspector Frances McCullough said: “I am appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the collision to please get in touch by calling 101, quoting reference 12 22/06/20.”

Local DUP MLA Peter Weir said news of the road collision and death was “devastating news”.

He said: “It is devastating news to hear that such a young man has died on our roads following a two vehicle collision near Killyleagh.

“My deepest sympathy to his family and friends at this most difficult time.

“I would urge anyone with any information to make this known to the PSNI”.

Meanwhile Alliance Councillor Patrick Brown who also expressed his condolences said: “I am horrified to hear of this terrible car crash which has resulted in tragedy.

“My thoughts are with the loved ones of the deceased and those injured in the crash.

“I hope they make a full recovery from this incident, which has led to yet another young person losing their life on our roads.

“While not fully clear yet what happened, I urge anyone with information on this incident to contact police with it immediately”.
