A post on the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue service Facebook page today says: “If you are in the Holywood area, please note the Fire Station’s siren will sound for 1 minute this afternoon around 1pm.

“This is a planned mark of respect for our colleague FF Martin Beegan who served in Holywood Fire Station and recently passed away.

“There is no need for any concern.

Mr Beegan, 57, died of a rare blood condition.

He had served in Bangor and Holywood stations.

He died in Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital on Monday.
