Larne resident receives New Year honour for university work

Elizabeth (Liz) Doherty was recognised for her services to higher education.

Originally from Port Glasgow, Liz has been living in the east Antrim town since 2006 and has worked at Ulster University for over 15 years

In her current role as receptionist at the university’s Belfast campus, she is the first point of contact for all students, staff and visitors and has a special ability for remembering names, faces and information that make people feel valued

Liz said:“I am so humbled to receive this honour. I just couldn’t believe it when I got the call.

“Being the receptionist at the Belfast campus is a busy job but I relish the opportunity to work with so many Ulster University students, staff and visitors. Together with the rest of the team it’s an honour to help new students find their feet, support staff and welcome visitors to the campus.”

Liz loves animals and is passionate about animal welfare. In her spare time she has rescued several animals including two donkeys, a sheep, a goat and cats and dogs.
