Latest breakdown of NI coronavirus cases by council area

The Department of Health has revealed that 3,934 people across Northern Ireland have tested positive for coronavirus so far.

The figures, as of Wednesday morning, showed that 28,357 people so far have been tested, with 24,404 found to be clear. Nineteen people had indeterminate test results.

The latest breakdown of individuals with a confirmed coronavirus test by local government district is as follows:

• In Antrim and Newtownabbey 325 people were found to have the virus out of the 2,153 tested;

• Ards and North Down: 259 out of 2,443;

• Armagh Banbridge and Craigavon: 401 out of 3,148;

• Belfast: 1,203 out of 6,499;

• Causeway Coasts and Glens: 167 out of 1,575;

Derry City and Strabane: 155 out of 1,759;

• Fermanagh and Omagh: 74 out of 1,006;

• Lisburn and Castlereagh: 375 out of 2,406;

• Mid and East Antrim: 268 out of 1,760;

• Mid Ulster: 159 out of 1,545;

• Newry Mourne and Down: 233 out of 2,278.

The vast majority of Covid-19 deaths in Northern Ireland have been in the age 80+ category (271). A total of 128 people aged between 60 and 79 have also died. That figure drops to 17 in the 40-59 bracket. Only one person under the age of 39 is known to have died from coronavirus.

A total of 4,827 people in Northern Ireland have been admitted to hospital suffering from Covid-19 with 418 known fatalities. Slightly more males than females have have died after contracting the virus – 213 (51%) compared to 204 (49%). A small number have not been catergorised in either group due to insufficient information.

Stormont ministers have warned the public not to be complacent about social distancing as the situation slowly improves.
