Tributes pour in for young motorcyclist and ‘lovely lad’ killed in collision

The male motorcyclist who sadly died following a road traffic collision near his home has been named.

He was 21-year-old William Weir.

The collision happened just outside Fivemiletown yesterday evening - and Mr Weir is from the Maguiresbridge area.

The collision, involving a black ZNEN motorbike and a silver-coloured Volkswagen Polo, was reported to police just after 6pm yesterday and occurred on the Belfast Road between Fivemiletown and Brookeborough.

Police and other emergency services attended the scene.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are appealing to anyone who was on the Belfast Road around this time, and who witnessed the collision, or who captured what occurred on their dash cam, to call 101 and quote reference number 1559 of 16/12/20.

The Belfast Road, between Fivemiletown and Brookeborough, was closed for a time, but it has since re-opened.

Earlier First Minister Arlene Foster Tweeted: “Heartbreaking news from my neighbourhood this evening. Our prayers are with this young man’s family who have been plunged into unimaginable grief. Please remember them.”

On social media, countless people posted about their sadness at his death.

Shay Bleakney on Wednesday night said: “Sorry to say my good friend and fellow rider William Weir (Clint) has died in a road traffic accident tonight on his bike. I will sadly miss him ..a lovely lad

“My thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Desanne Coleman added: “This is so sad to hear this RIP fella ride free in the sky love n best wishes to family n friends n biker buddies at such a sad time”, Emmett Brady added: “I was his sponsor into the club I’m at a loss for words” and Scott Frensham said: “Such sad news had met him a couple of times. R.I.P.”

And Emmett Brady on wednesday night posted: “William Weir this one is for you buddy.

“Race every angel you find and make as much noise as you can.

“I didn’t know you for long but I knew you were a good oul skin. Can’t believe we’ve lost you already buddy. You’ll always be my first sponsor lad and I’ll never forget that!!!!!”

Earlier today Alastair Colhoun said pm social media: “Thoughts and prayers go out to the Weir family and friends for the tragic loss of William Weir jnr who was tragically killed on his motorcycle last nyt..
