An Irish Cup match had to be abandoned on Saturday after a player apparently ran into a wall.

First division sides Carrick Rangers and Larne were 27 minutes into the fifth round game when the incident happened.

Accounts say Larne player Scott Irvine ran into a wall.

Larne FC issued this statement: “The club would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their well wishes after the injury suffered by Scott Irvine.

“We especially want to thank the medical staff who attended to Scott at the side of the pitch and thank everyone in attendance for their understanding at the abandonment and the applause they gave Scott as he left the ground for hospital.

“We will post any further update here as soon as we have it.”

The score was 0-0 at the time.
