Police investigating death of elderly pedestrian appeal for witnesses

Police officers investigating the death of an 80-year-old woman who passed away after being involved in a road traffic collision in Co Down have renewed their appeal for witnesses to come forward.

The woman, named by police as Jean Osborne, died in hospital on Friday – three days after she was hit by a car in the Plantation Street area of Killyleagh.

“Police can confirm that an older female pedestrian has died from injuries sustained in a road traffic collision on Plantation Street in Killyleagh on Tuesday afternoon, January 15,” Inspector O’Connor said.

“Jean Osborne, who was 80 years old, was taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries but died on Friday night, January 18.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the Plantation Street area on Tuesday afternoon around 1.15pm and witnessed the collision to contact officers in Downpatrick on 101, quoting reference number 522 of 15/01/19.

“If you were driving in the area and might have dashcam footage of the incident, we would also like to hear from you as you may be able to help our investigation into what happened.”

A family notice described Mrs Osborne as “a dearly beloved wife, a much loved mother and a loving grandmother and great grandmother.”

Her funeral is due to take place at Second Killyleagh Presbyterian Church on Tuesday at 2:30pm.

She will be laid to rest at First Killyleagh Presbyterian Churchyard.
