The Executive is due to meet on Thursday to discuss further relaxation of lockdown measures.

The BBC has reported that the July 6 date will be discussed as a potential date for salons to reopen, but it is dependent on gaining both executive and scientific support.

When the salons open they would have to balance the demand for appointments with the need for social distancing. This is likely to involve the use of plastic screens, disposable masks and gowns and hand sanitiser.

It could also mean longer opening hours, staggering staff shifts and special slots for the over-70s and other vulnerable people.

The executive meeting is also set to discuss the reduction of social distancing guidelines from a distance of 2m to 1m as well as the plans for reopening schools and provision for childcare arrangements.

They are expected to discuss a bid to continue the free school meals scheme over the summer.

All the Stormont parties support the proposal, but Education Minister Peter Weir said he would have to bid for funding from the executive’s Covid-19 fund, as his department could not afford it.
