Lawyer David Brewster’s funeral told he was a gifted man who stood up for his beliefs

David Brewster, 56, died suddenly last Wednesday from what is suspected to have been a heart attack.

Mark Smith, speaking on behalf of David’s sister Elinor, said that David will be remembered in so many ways, “by his church, the Orange Order, his love of football and his beloved Northern Ireland”.

“Behind the scenes he was a big brother and he took that role very seriously,” he added.

“He would scold me if I dropped the Northern in Northern Ireland. I spoke to him just two days prior to his passing and asked him if he watched Derry Girls. Naturally, he was not happy with the word London being left out.

“Janet and I are still and will be for some time trying to come to terms with the sudden passing of our big brother. But we have many happy memories and smiles to remember him.”

Mr Brewster was the worshipful master of Aghanloo True Blues LOL656 and secretary of the Bellarena Apprentice Boys club.

He was also vice-chairman of Limavady Football Club and mourners heard of how he once put in a loan bid for Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez, who had fallen out of favour.

Mr Brewster promised to keep Tevez fit, if City agreed to continue to pay his wages.

He is survived by his sisters Janet and Elinor.
