A child molester has been barred from acting as a priest by the Pope, around three years after his sex abuse convictions.
James Donaghy formally resigned his office of parish priest of Bangor in 2009, having stepped aside from carrying out his clerical duties five years earlier.
In December 2011, he was convicted of a string of sex crimes and jailed, with more convictions following later.
On Friday the Catholic Church said Pope Francis had “dismissed James Donaghy from the clerical state on his own authority and for the good of the Church”.
It means Donaghy cannot acting as a priest either privately or publicly.
