Police have warned underage drinkers that they will continue to seize alcohol from them “all summer long” if needs be.

The message accompanied the above picture, posted on the PSNI’s North Coast Facebook page, shows alcohol confiscated from young revellers on Monday in Portstewart and Portrush.

The PSNI said in a statement: “Too much alcohol impairs judgement and is risky for young people who mightn’t know their limits. The young people didn’t realise it at the time, but police seizing the drink probably saved them from a lot of bother.

“Please also remember it’s an offence to buy drink for under 18s. Police will seize drink all summer long if we need to.”
It is not belived there were any arrests, and that those caught in possession of the alcohol were instead taken home to parents.

Police could not provide figures for the numbers of youths involved.
