Queen's Belfast on the rise in latest university league table

Queen's University in Belfast has remained just outside the top 30 in a league table of UK universities published on Monday.

Although The Complete University Guide places Queen’s at 33rd - up three places from last year - it has only partly reversed the fall of five places the previous year when it dropped from 31st to 36th.

Ulster University has followed last year’s jump of 17 places with a drop of three and is now lying in 70th place. Nationally, the top five universities for 2017 are Cambridge, Oxford, London School of Economics, Imperial College London and St Andrews.

In a separate table covering 70 subjects, Queen’s appears in the top ten for 10 of the 41 subjects it offers, while Ulster, offering the same number of subjects, appears in the top ten of three.

Dr Bernard Kingston, principal author of TheCompleteUniversityGuide.co.uk, said: “There is a considerable degree of stability at the upper end of the league table this year. While dramatic changes may be newsworthy, this stability indicates that the rankings are robust and credible for young people seeking a university place”.
