The funerals have taken place of two young men killed in road accidents.

Church Army Captain David Hamilton told the congregation at of Clogh Parish Church in Rosslea on Saturday how 21-year-old Jamie Nelson, from Rosslea, had been in his second year training to be a vet at Glasgow University.

He was killed in a car accident on March 18 near Brookeborough in Co Fermanagh.

Capt Hamilton said Jamie was the oldest of six children and “he was their friend as well as their brother”.

“He always had a love for animals so it was no surprise when he went on to study to become a vet,” he said.

“He was so bright and bubbly and enthusiastic about things and was involved in loads of activities.”

Capt Hamilton said Magharaveely Flute Band, near Lisnaskea, of which Jamie was a member, formed a guard of honour outside the church.

Also on Saturday Ballygowan Presbyterian Church hosted the funeral of 27-year-old David McGaughey who died after a road crash in Comber on March 16. Linfield FC offered its sympathies and said David’s father was Philip McGaughey, their former goalkeeper, and his uncle the legendary centre forward Martin McGaughey.
