The PSNI are in attendance at a security alert in the Markets area of central Belfast.

The alert centres on Friendly Street in the republican neighbourhood close to Central Station, and follows the discovery of a suspicious object. Inspector David Gibson said on Thursday morning: ”Friendly Street has been closed and a number of homes are being evacuated.

“Army technical officers have been tasked to the scene and there are no further details at present.”
