Suspicious object in Ballymena '˜a hoax'

A suspicious device found in Ballymena has been described as an 'elaborate hoax'.

Residents in the Cambridge Avenue area – near Cambridge House Grammar School –had to be evacuated after a device was found near a postbox.

Army Technical Officers (ATO) were tasked to the scene around 7pm.

It is only two weeks since a similar alert in the area.

At that time, police revealed the device was an “improvised firework”.

Ballymena DUP councillor John Carson said he had been told the alert was the result of a hoax.

Sources told the Ballymena Times the item discovered last night “seems to be more elaborate”.
