SW Down ready for winter
Over the summer we had a great number of entries into the UFU Cereal Competition. The group winners were as follows: Spring Barley, Derek Martin; Winter Wheat, Jim Crothers and Oats, Stephen Ball. Congratulations to all these winners.
In August the group was lucky enough to have the UFU Office Bearers join us for a question and answer session at William & John Hanna’s Farm, Rathfriland. This was a popular event with around 40 local farmers joining us and having an informative and open discussion about the farming industry and UFU activities as a whole.

Hide AdJust this week we launched our Winter Programme; our first meeting on Rural Crime Prevention & Agricultural Vehicles on the road, with speakers from PSNI and Kate Cairns, UFU Policy Officer.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, in Rathfriland YFC Hall which promises to be of great interest to a lot of our members as Kieran McCavanagh, Head of Agri Inspections, NIEA, will be speaking and we will also have a speaker from NI Farm Quality Assurance.
Our Christmas meeting will be held on December 6 and will be a Jiving Class (no partner required). We encourage all our members, both young and not so young, to join us for fun and some festive food.
Finally, don’t forget that you can still pay your union subscriptions by Direct Debit if you have not already opted to do so, and in return you will obtain a free body warmer.
