Tea and a weekend
of treats for Nicola

We are loving Nicola Leigh Bothwell’s approach to her birthday - and to Christmas.

The PR professional, who owns her own chartered marketing business, turned 44 on April 12, and likes her family to forgo Christmas presents on December 25, preferring to allow them to spoil her on her spring birthday instead.

The Belfast woman, who is married to Ian, and enjoyed a spa treatment and afternoon tea with him and her mother Georgia to mark her birthday, as well as weekend of fun with family and friends, explained: “I’m all about my birthday. In my school days if my birthday didn’t fall during the Easter holidays, my mum allowed me the day off. That tradition has stuck and I’ve never worked on my birthday.

“I joke that I’d rather celebrate Jesus on His birthday, and instead of receiving Christmas presents I prefer my husband and family to spoil me on the day that marks my own April birthday - but I’m actually quite serious about it and donate to charity at Christmas instead of exchanging gifts.

“My sister Cheryl says that my birthday has now extended to my birthday month - but sure that’s OK, isn’t it? And, I’m slowly realising since turning 40, that growing old is indeed a privilege!”

We think so too Nicola, and would like to wish you a very happy belated birthday!
