NI roads closed after Yellow weather warning for rain brings flooding - motorists asked to travel with care

According to the service the weather warning is in place for all parts of NI until 6pm.

According to TrafficwatchNI this morning there has been “reports of various fallen trees and flooding incidents across NI”.

Motorists have been asked to “Please slow down and drive with care”.

A Tweet on Police Derry City and Strabane this afternoon said: “Heavy flooding on the main Foreglen Road, Claudy close to the Baranailt Road junction. Passable with extreme caution but advisable to avoid the area”.

A later Tweet from TrafficwatchNI said that in County Londonderry the “A6 flooded at B69 Baranault Road, Claudy, Road is passable. But drivers should avoid the area if possible while we work to clear the flood.

And it was reported on the same site that in Castlereagh there were reports of “FLOODING on Saintfield Rd, Knockbracken Rd & Knockbracken Rd Sth. This forms part of the diversionary route. Seek an alt route”.

The Met Office website says: “Heavy rain expected across Northern Ireland leading to some disruption through Sunday”.

They advise that in NI it will be “cloudy with outbreaks of rain, persistent and heavy at times, especially across the north, with standing water on roads and perhaps some localised flooding”.

The Met Office add: “Drier conditions are expected to edge across eastern parts later.

“Strong northwesterly winds soon easing. Maximum temperature 14 °C.”

And tonight is forecast to be “mainly dry across eastern counties at first, but generally a cloudy evening and night with outbreaks of rain, the rain across western parts perhaps heavy at times”.

They add that: “flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely; bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer; spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer; and some interruption to power supplies and other services likely”.

According to the Met Office tomorrow (Monday) will be “rather cloudy with outbreaks of mostly light rain through much of the day”.

“Southern counties may become drier and brighter during the afternoon as the northwesterly breeze freshens. Maximum temperature 14 °C”.

And the outlook for Tuesday to Thursday is a “mix of sunshine and showers through Tuesday and Wednesday, with an occasionally strong northwesterly breeze on Wednesday”.

Meanwhile there is a “risk of more persistent rain for a time Thursday”.
