NI weather: Drivers warned about ‘sheet ice’ this morning on roads - road traffic collisions close roads

Police have urged motorists to exercise caution and reduce their speed.

A post on TrafficwatchNI says: “There was a risk of ice on roads this morning.

“Salting of roads on the scheduled network considered to be at risk is underway, (particularly high ground routes).

“Road users are advised to exercise caution when travelling, particularly when driving on untreated roads.”

Meanwhile two collisions have been reported in the Newry, Mourne and Down policing district resulting in the closure of roads in the area.

Salting of the roads network has taken place but motorists are being advised to take extra care on untreated roads and surfaces.

A post on the PSNI this morning says: “Freezing temperatures overnight have left many roads with ice and frost this morning. Motorists should exercise caution and reduce speed.”
