Firefighters trying to control significant wildfires in Co Antrim

Around 70 firefighters were tackling overnight wildfires in Ballycastle during the night.

According to a tweet from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service: “We are currently dealing with two significant gorse fires in the Altarichard Road area and Islandboy Road area in Ballycastle.

“12 Fire Appliances and approximately 70 Firefighters from our Northern Area Command have been deployed to deal with these incidents which are ongoing.

Pictures taken during the night by Steven McAuley showed the devastation as farmer lent water tankers to help tackle the spreading fires.
