A recovery operation to access a bus which crashed through a wall onto a beach at Strangford Lough this morning is now complete.

A PSNI spokesman said the collision on the Portaferry Road - between Newtownards and Portaferry - happened at 6.50am.

“The only person on the bus was the driver who has been treated for minor injuries,” she added.

Later a Translink spokesman said: “We can confirm an Ulsterbus was involved in an incident on the Portaferry Road today around 6.30am.

“No other vehicles were involved and no passengers were on board. The driver has been taken to hospital to be assessed.

“PSNI attended the scene. The recovery operation has just been completed.
