A security alert in west Tyrone, sparked by a suspicious object, has now ended with the discovery of a genuine device.
It focussed on a laneway off the Evish Road, a road to the south-east of Strabane, leading out into the countryside.
Diversions were put in place on the Evish Road at its junctions with Newtownkennedy Street and Springhill Park.
One home was evacuated.
At about 2pm, police said: “The security alert in the Evish Road area of Strabane has now ended. The alert began after a suspicious object was discovered during a planned search by officers from PSNI Serious Crime Branch.
“ATO examined the object that was discovered in a laneway off the road and have declared it to be the component parts of a viable explosive device.
“These have now been removed for further examination.
“All roads in the area have now reopened to traffic.”
