VIDEO: Treatment of pastor was ‘shameful’ says Catholic priest

A Catholic priest who gave evidence in favour of Pastor McConnell has fiercely criticised the fact that the preacher was put on trial.

Father Paddy McCafferty told the News Letter in the video clip above: “It is shameful that this man who is a good man should be put through this ordeal.”

The priest, from Crossgar in Co Down, got to know the pastor when he was formerly based in north Belfast.

He was speaking on the day of Mr McConnell’s cross examination during the December trial.

Another supporter of the pastor, Sheikh Muhammad Al-Hussaini, spoke at the time of his “love and concern” for Mr McConnell as he was grilled in the dock.
