A college on the Falls Road in Belfast yesterday welcomed a display featuring a memorial quilt for IRA victims.
Last month St Mary’s University College made headlines regarding displays about IRA and INLA members.
Yesterday principal Professor Peter Finn said there are “still very different and conflicting interpretations of the legacy of the Troubles” and that the college upholds the right of people to “express their points of view”.
Kenny Donaldson of victims group the South East Fermanagh Foundation – which created the quilt – gave a talk and said he was made to feel “welcome and respected”.
He said his message was well received: “That there was no legitimacy for the actions of republican or loyalist terrorists nor those individual members of the security forces who engaged in acts of criminal violence.”
