Workmates pay tribute to murdered Laura Marshall

The 31-year-old had worked for a short time in the Cookery Nook bakery in High Street, Portadown, and left just last month.

Her body was found on Sunday evening at her apartment in Lurgan’s Victoria Street.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death, and detectives were granted an extra 36 hours to question him.

Tributes have been paid to Laura who has been described as a popular young woman who had travelled extensively and lived life to the full.

Detective Chief Inspector Eamonn Corrigan from Serious Crime Branch said, “Laura’s body was discovered at approximately 5.30pm on Sunday, April 3.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen or had any contact with Laura over the weekend to contact Detectives on 101, I also want to hear from anyone who saw or heard any activity at Laura’s home in Victoria Street over the weekend until Sunday evening at 5.30pm.”

On Wednesday, police issued an appeal for more information about her social media activity.

Police said, “Our thoughts are very much with Laura’s family now as they grieve and search for answers as to what happened to Laura.

“To find these answers, we need your help. If you saw or spoke to Laura between Friday, April 1 and Sunday, April 3 we would really like to hear from you.

“If you are aware of any activity on social media by her; whether it be Facebook, Snapchat, Whatsapp etc, please get in touch. Equally, if you know of anyone who is aware of any of the above, please get them to get in touch, or ring us yourselves.”

Social media has been flooded with tributes to Laura. Dean Oxby said she was “a very popular and outgoing inspirational woman who can always put a smile on your face. You made many friends around the world where you have travelled on your journeys and they are sadly touched by the news of your death”.

Another friend posted on Laura’s Facebook page: “I have cried and cried thinking of your last hours.”

Sinn Féin councillor Catherine Seeley said the tragic event had sent shockwaves through the community. “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased,” she added.

Ulster Unionist councillor Kyle Savage said, “It is incredibly sad news that this young woman has lost her life. To hear a murder investigation has been launched will be more devastating news for her family.”
