It’s been hailed as one of the most peaceful Twelfths in recent times – but 2014 will also be remembered as the year of the “Twelfthie Selfie”.

The selfie phenomenon – where individuals take self-portrait photographs with a camera at arm’s length – has swept the globe, with even the likes of US President Barack Obama taking time out during momentous events to pose for a snap.

And, of course, the more pals you can squeeze into your frame, the better.

This year, the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland sought to capitalise on the craze by encouraging its members and supporters to take selfies, and post them online using the hashtag #TwelfthieSelfie.

And plenty of Twelfth revellers took up the challenge.

“We were delighted with the response to our ‘TwelfthieSelfie’ appeal which clearly captured the imagination of our many followers on social media, and showcased the largest day in the parading calendar to a worldwide audience,” said Grand Master Edward Stevenson.
