YFCU member all set for 2016 W.R. Shaw Queen of the Land Festival

Young Farmers' Clubs of Ulster member Lynsay Hawkes will be representing Northern Ireland at the 52nd W. R. Shaw Queen of the Land Festival hosted by Macra Na Feirme in Tullamore, Co. Offaly from the 11-13th November 2016.

Lynsay a student of Sports Theory and Practice at University of Ulster, Jordanstown hails from County Tyrone and is a member of Seskinore YFC. Her hobbies and interests include showing livestock at agricultural shows, socialising, playing rugby, coaching and volunteering.

Lynsay is the outgoing Miss Tyrone and has enjoyed representing her County at the many Young Farmers’ events and at her local shows in Omagh and Clogher. Alongside her hectic schedule, being secretary of Seskinore YFC and in between her university studies she is constantly ‘on the road’ participating in the various YFC competitions.

Lynsay has had numerous successes over the past 10 years both at County and Northern Ireland level. Her successes in recent years include receiving the Top Public Relations Officer in Northern Ireland, Top Impromptu Public Speaker in Northern Ireland (18-21), as well as beef, sheep and dairy stock judging, floral art, group debating and tag rugby. Her club Seskinore YFC would like to wish her the very best of luck and hope she does her club, county and Northern Ireland proud.

A fantastic programme of events is planned for the 2016 W.R. Shaw Queen of the Land Festival which was officially launched in the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore on Saturday 15th October. Lynsay along with 31 other Queens will compete for the title of W.R. Shaw Queen of the Land 2016 including other international competition from Scotland and England. The festival will attract visitors from all over the country and beyond to Tullamore on the weekend of Friday November 11th to Sunday November 13th, 2016.

Speaking at the launch the Chairman of the Committee, Ger Mahon said: “We are delighted to have W.R. Shaw back as the main sponsors of the Festival and we extend our sincere gratitude to them for their continued support and commitment to the Queen of the Land Festival.”

Founded in 1964 the festival has gone from strength to strength and this year’s 52nd Festival will be no exception. “We have pulled out all the stops to ensure that the 2016 W.R. Shaw Queen of the Land Festival is the best yet with a superb line-up of entertainment for this year’s festival you won’t be disappointed,” said Mr Mahon.

This year’s judges are Christine Buckley, reigning W.R Shaw Queen of the Land 2015, Billy Shaw, representative of W.R Shaw and guest judge Anna Marie McHugh, NPA representative and Queen of the Land from 1989. The MC for the weekend is comedian and impersonator Frank Forde.
