On the 30th December 1993 Guardsman Daniel Blinco was shot dead outside Murtagh’s Bar in Crossmaglen.
It is believed this murder was set up to impress the soon-to-be IRA gunrunner, Michael Logan, a stock-broker living in Florida.
Logan dealt directly with Spike Murray and is believed to have sent around 400 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammo to the IRA, some sent as recently as 1999.
At the same time the IRA had negotiated a deal with the Colombian narco-terrorists Farc to receive a huge consignment of arms from them in return for training and assistance, hence the arrest of the ‘IRA Colombia three’ in 2001.
One of the Florida weapons was used to murder Constables John Graham and David Johnston in Lurgan in 1997.
Logan was interviewed by the PSNI and he also freely admits his involvement in press interviews, naming Murray and others. The case was reopened in 2014 with Logan prepared to give evidence against Murray but once again it has all gone quiet.
The deputy first minister, Martin McGuinness, has been linked to many incidents but has never actually been arrested in NI.
