Changes in care for the elderly

Self interest or what? I worked in the Health Service for decades and remember the elderly being cared for by our national service.

The internal market began and the private sector also took an interest in the new business of the elderly who were means tested and obliged to pay substantially for their accommodation.

In many cases government was a minority contributor.

Government also saw opportunity to off-load the employment of staff to a private operator.

Problems have exhibited in the private market for a considerable time and lately the sad news of debt and closures.

Costs continue to rise but there must be a way we can ensure the wellbeing of those who once stood in the workplace for those coming behind.
