Native populations often suffer due to immigration

I fully endorse the letter from Thomas Stewart (April 14), on the need to see immigration in a wider context.

Descendants of Irish immigrants appear excluded from southern Irish politics.

Immigration to America resulted in the deaths of five million native Americans, partly due to the destruction of their food supply - the buffalo.

Many local people have had an improved quality of life by moving to Australia where the native Australians, the Aborigines, are third-world citizens, with a life expectancy 20 years less than the Australian average.
