During Assembly Questions to the Minister for Culture, Arts & Leisure Carál Ní Chuilín on Tuesday (November 24), I asked if she planned to put her full weight behind the Northern Ireland team by travelling to France to support them next summer in the European Football Championships.
This was a simple question because Sinn Fein representatives have a track record of failing to support our Northern Ireland football team.
Indeed when England came to play in Belfast a few years ago and Gerry Kelly MLA was asked which team he would support he wouldn’t even say Northern Ireland when we were playing against England!
The DCAL Minister’s response was hostile and a gross overreaction, which seems to be her stock in trade.
This is not the first time this Minister, when dealing with questions, loses the plot as well as the answer.
It shouldn’t be too difficult for a Minister (for Northern Ireland Sport) to support the Northern Ireland football team.
