Some of us want to be in Irish nation

John McCallister (August 19) stated: “To be British now is to belong to a community of nations and regional identities – English, Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish; London, Yorkshire, Cornish, North East.

It is the rich diversity and variety which together makes us British.”

Conveniently he turns a blind eye to the ongoing injustice of Irish people in Northern Ireland being prevented from exercising their right to participate as part of the mainstream Irish nation, in the same way that unionists are free to participate as part of the mainstream British nation.

We don’t all identify ourselves as British.
