Trident dangerous and also wasteful

There has already been some publicity about Trident replacement in the UK general election but it deserves attention for a variety of reasons.

Replacing Trident could soak up an absolutely enormous sum of money (tens of billions or even a hundred billion pounds) which would not be available for any other purpose.

The current Trident system is the UK’s largest WDM (Weapons of Mass Destruction) and it is almost inconceivable that it would be used, and if it was used against another nuclear state that would likely be the end of civilisation as we know it.

So not only is it extremely violent and dangerous it is also extremely wasteful of resources at a time when the whole of the UK is suffering, but particularly Northern Ireland as cuts bite and the recession continues here.

We would therefore suggest that voters find out where candidates stand on Trident replacement and vote for their choice of one who rejects this nuclear madness.
