BOXING: Paul Hyland jnr wins at Europa Hotel

Paul Hyland jnr secured a 80-71 win against Nelson Altamirano at the Europa Hotel in Belfast on Saturday night.

Hyland Jnr had his opponent down in the third but Altamirano was by far the bigger man and he lasted the eight rounds.

But lightweight Hyland Jnr can be pleased with his night’s work as he boxed well and deservedly had his hand raised at the end.

The result moves Hyland jnr to eleven in the British rankings, so big fights are on the horizon.

Tyrone McCullagh also put on a good performance as his fight against Edwin Tellez was stopped in the fourth round.

Southpaw McCullagh boxed well and he has power which bodes well for the future.

There were a;points wins for Carl McDonald and Fergal McCrory.

McCrory boxed well against Ivailo Boyanov and the John Breen trained fighter likes a war as he and Boyanov traded blows for the four rounds.

Scotland’s Ronnie Clarke saw off Reynaldo Cajina 60-55 on points.

‘The Shark’ showed good boxing skills to see off his opponent over six rounds and it was a good work out for the Scottish fighter.

Veteran Ian Tims had a battle with Remigijus Ziausys over six rounds.

Tims winning the fight 60-55 after being the busier and throwing the cleaner shots during the contest.

In the first fight of the night Dublin’s Jay Byrne saw off Liam Griffiths 40-36 after four action packed rounds.
