The light-heavyweight had a glittering career as an amateur before now trying his hand in the paid ranks.

Ward always had the ability and now he just wants to make his mark in the coming months.

“I am 26 years old now and I thought the time was right for me to turn professional.

“To be honest I had been thinking about it for a while but I am glad I waited until I did. The aim is to go as far as I can in the sport and see what happens. I just have to keep winning, claim a title and then move on to bigger and better things. That’s the plan,” he added.

And Ward is delighted he is making his debut on the packed card at the Exhibition Centre.

“It is great to be fighting in Belfast with the likes of Jamie Conlan who is defending his Commonwealth super flyweight title, Tyrone McKenna who is fighting for a title and Marc McCullough, Paddy Barnes, Con Sheehan, Gary Sweeney and Lewis Crocker will all take part.

“This is a packed show and there are loads of talented fighters on the bill and it is a great bill to be on to start my professional career.

“Boxing in Belfast is buzzing at the minute and it is great to be part of that.

“Carl Frampton is leading the way and that was great news about his rematch with Leo Santa Cruz. I would love to have gone to that fight - but I get married in February so I might not be able to make it,” he added.

And Ward says he has made the transfer from amateur to professional without to much bother.

“I am really enjoying it and things are going well. Training and sparring has been first class and MGM are looking after me very well. And my sponsor Stephen Parr from the Parr Group has been a great help and everything is good,” added Ward.

And Belfast’s James Tennyson has also been added to the November bill.
