WBC World champion Leo Santa Cruz is gunning for Belfast’s Carl Frampton and he wants to face ‘The Jackal’ as soon as possible.

Mexican Santa Cruz will defend his World title against Cristian Mijares in Las Vegas on March 8.

And if he comes though that mandatory defence against Mijares, he wants Frampton.

“If I had the choice I would fight Carl Frampton.

“I really want Carl Frampton. He has been calling me out and I said ‘Ok get me that fight.’ He is a great fighter, he is unbeaten, he comes forward, he is strong and I think that would be a great encounter.

“I will be speaking to my manager and my promoter and I will be asking them to make that fight as soon as they can.”

But Santa Cruz knows he has to take care of Mijares first.

“I am totally focused on Mijares and winning that fight. I am training very hard and I will be ready. He is a very good fighter but this is my time, ” he added.
