Conrad Cummings and Alfredo Meli were not swapping telephone numbers on Tuesday before their Celtic title clash at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast on November 20.

Both Cummings and Meli are unbeaten so far as professionals and both will know that winning this fight will catapult their career to the next level.

Both fighters are known for their all aggressive styles so a war looks set to break-out at the Belfast venue.

And Conrad is looking forward to facing southpaw Meli.

“I’m absolutely buzzing about this fight.

“It’s my first title fight, my first ten-rounder and I will also be headlining a show for the first time at a great venue in the Waterfront Hall.

“I respect what my opponent has achieved in the amateurs and professional game and I am not taking this fight lightly.

“We have some hard men from France being flown into London to put me through my paces in sparring ahead of November 20 and I will be ready come fight time,” said Cummings.

But Meli insists he is not there to make up the number and he fancies his chances of derailing the Cummings bandwagon.

“This is the kind of fight I got into boxing for. We are both coming to win and we both have our strengths and weaknesses.

“I have known about this fight for a while now and I’m leaving no stone unturned. I will be the new Celtic middleweight champion on November 20,” said Meli.

And Cummings manager Barry McGuigan believes his man will see off the challenge of Meli when they meet.

“Conrad has been looking better and better in each training camp and I have no doubt that he can deliver the goods on November 20.

“The team has made sure that Conrad will be very well prepared for this bout and he will need to be. .

“Meli is a talented young boxer who is undefeated as a professional and is on all roll at the moment.

“ His team believes he has the beating of Conrad and this fight has all the hallmarks of a classic domestic dustup.”

Also on the night Belfast’s Marco McCullough takes on Jon Slowey in a make or break ten-round contest.

Paul Hyland Jnr, Matthew Wilton and Paddy Gallagher will also feature on the bill.
