Dee Walsh travelled to Las Vegas looking to mix it at Mayweather’s Gym as he prepares to take to the ring at the Europa Hotel on October 17.

The talented Belfast fighter had gone to the USA hoping to spar at the gym of his hero Floyd Mayweather Jnr – but the whole experience left ‘Waldo’ deflated.

“They were so rude and arrogant and it was not the experience that I had been hoping for. I never met Floyd but everyone else in his gym were so full of themselves. It was so bad I did not watch Floyd beating Andre Berto on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

“It was the first fight of his I have missed in years –but the whole gym experience ruined it for me.

“It is a bit of a letdown but that is just the way it is,” he added.

But Walsh knows he has to put the disappointment of his USA trip behind him and concentrate on Simone ‘Lucky’ Lucas – who he will meet in the Europa.

“I am back now and training away and things are going well. This guy’s record is okay but I know I have to win and impress.

“These are the kind of fights I have to be winning and winning well if I want to get to the next level.

“I am also looking forward to get another win on my record and I am also looking to fighting at the Europa,” he added.

And Walsh’s manager and promoter Mark Dunlop – who recently started working with Frank WarrenPromotions – believes big things could happen for Walsh over the coming months.

“The British light middleweight scene is really getting exciting at the minute.

“The division is in the grasp of Frank Warren who also manages British Champion Liam Smith who will soon fight for a world title.

“He also manages Commonwealth champion Liam Williams so I am delighted to be on good terms with Warren, because it could open up doors for Dee.

“Dee’s last fight was against a tough guy called Patryk Litkiewicz and he made it look easy – he’s more than capable at that level and winning next month will get him a top 10 ranking.

“Dee will be taking Lucas very seriously, especially after seeing Anthony Fitzgerald slip-up to a similar opponent at the weekend.”

The show is headlined by lightweight Paul Hyland Jnr along with James Tennyson, James Fryers and Joe Fitzpatrick.
