Super-bantamweight king Guillermo Rigondeaux has named Carl Frampton as his “number one target” ahead of the Belfast star’s World title defence on Saturday night.
Frampton will defend his IBF crown against Chris Avalos in front of 9,000 fans at the Odyssey Arena.
Rigondeaux – the WBO, WBA Super and Ring Magazine World Champion – believes Frampton is his biggest challenger in the division.
“The only fighter I would like to face in the Super-bantamweight division is Carl Frampton,” he told the News Letter.
“He is the only one that would challenge and test me. WBC World Champion Leo Santa Cruz means nothing to me – the same goes for Scott Quigg.
“Frampton is the number one fighter in the world on my hit-list and he is the one I want.
“Santa Cruz and Quigg mean nothing to me – Frampton is the one I want and I hope that fight happens.”
And the Cuban is convinced Frampton will do the business against Avalos this evening.
“I have no respect or time for Avalos because he pulled out and backed out of a fight with me already,” Rigondeaux added.
“Avalos is behind Frampton for this one and I see Frampton winning the fight in his home town.
“I think Frampton is too clever for Avalos and I think he will defend his title” added Rigondeaux.
And the Gary Hyde-managed fighter says he may make a trip over to see Frampton and Quigg do battle.
“After beating Avalos, a fight between Frampton and Quigg could happen.
“And if it does I may come over to watch that one – let us see what happens. They all can’t keep away from me forever,” he added.
