Manager Pat Magee was delighted with Tommy McCarthy’s performance in Belfast on Saturday night.
Magee’s young charge put on an impressive performance as he defeated the very experienced Courtney Fry on points after eight hard rounds.
It was only McCarthy’s sixth fight as a professional and he showed he has power as he put Fry down twice during the clash.
McCarthy - a former top amateur - has the skills and the ability to go a long way in the sport and on Saturday night he showed that he is ready to move up a level in the cruiserweight division.
And Magee believes there is more to come from McCarthy.
“I was very pleased with his performance. That was a big step-up at this stage of his career and he handled it very well.
“Fry was an experienced campaigner and beating him has got us in the British title mix. Tommy is improving all the time and we will sit down this week and decide what to do next.
“I think we are two to three fights away from a British title shot,” he added.
